Use error(3) function, that has gnulib portability fixes, instead of err(3)
and warn(3) family.

This will mean better portability, and a good reason to get rid of
various portability autotools directives which where part of this
project.

The tag v2.14 was probably done without -a option so it was not
recogniced by git describe. To over come this I found easiest to add
--tag to git-version-gen. This change should be reverted after a
release.
